Am I a Good Candidate for Body Sculpting?

Am I a Good Candidate for Body Sculpting?

Weight loss and body toning can be different for everyone, but some people find that no matter how hard they work, stubborn fat pockets just don’t disappear. This is completely normal and not your fault!

At New Image Medical Spa in Fremont, California, Dr. Surinder Sandhu offers body sculpting options to deliver slimming, toned results for people who are nearing the end of their weight loss journey.

Body contouring 101

Body contouring is a nonsurgical way to eliminate fat. At New Image Medical Spa, there are three ways we can help you get rid of fat pockets that are keeping you from reaching your goals.

Instead of inserting a cannula into your body and physically sucking out fat like in traditional liposuction, the SculpSure system uses gentle laser energy to target stubborn fat cells in pockets under your skin. SculpSure treatment is performed with a handheld device, which Dr. Sandhu gently passes over your problem areas.

When the laser heat hits your fat cells, it disrupts their composition, and your body then sees them as waste to be safely and naturally removed via your lymphatic system over the following weeks after treatment.

SculpSure can eliminate as much as 24% of fat remaining on your body after you exercise and eat carefully to get close to your goal weight. A few treatments, six weeks apart, usually help tighten and tone your last few saggy or bulging spots and give you the end result you’ve been working toward.

CoolSculpting is a very similar process, using the opposite of warming to target fat cells. Instead of heat, CoolSculpting uses cold to disrupt the cell structure, but the end result is the same: The fat breaks down and gets flushed out of your system.

CoolSculpting can permanently remove 20%-25% of targeted fat cells. You may need several treatments to achieve your ultimate body goals.

Targeting common fat-holding areas

The SculpSure and CoolSculpting devices can target fat cells all over your body. Our patients usually ask for help with stubborn fat around the:

It takes less than a half-hour to treat each body section. You don’t have to get completely unclothed, and you simply lie comfortably and feel a slight warming or cooling sensation as the device passes over the treatment area(s). Then you can go right back to your day.

If you still have a double chin, as many patients do after weight loss, we also offer Kybella injections to redefine your neckline. These injections contain deoxycholic acid, which is a naturally occurring molecule in the body. It helps with the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat.

When injected into under-the-chin submental fat, Kybella causes the fat cells to break down and be flushed out of your body just like other body sculpting treatments.

Who is a good candidate?

Your BMI needs to be under 30 to be considered for body sculpting treatments. These methods are not intended for use as a weight-loss treatment on their own. They’re more effective at helping to finish the job by getting rid of stubborn fat pockets you just can’t beat.

You can’t take any aspirin or other types of blood thinners directly before or after treatment. If you have a bleeding disorder or bruise easily, talk to us before scheduling your appointment. Dr. Sandhu can answer your questions and evaluate if you’re a good candidate.

To determine if body sculpting could be an option for you, schedule a consultation at New Image Medical Spa. You can get in touch by calling 510-269-2324, or you can request an appointment online
