Microneedling

What is microneedling?

Microneedling is a skin rejuvenating treatment. During it, Dr. Sandhu moves a specialized device over the surface of your skin. With a number of extremely small needles, this device creates a series of controlled pinprick punctures in the surface of your skin.

Microneedling is also called collagen induction therapy because of what happens next. Your body registers the pinpricks as injuries and gets to work healing them. It does this by creating new collagen. Collagen is the protein that keeps your skin supple, smooth, and elastic. As your body heals the tiny punctures created by the microneedling device by making new collagen, you’re left with more even, vibrant skin.

As microneedling encourages new collagen production, it also breaks up imperfections in your skin. This makes it effective for treating:

  • Scars, including acne scars
  • Fine lines
  • Sun damage
  • Skin laxity
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Large pores

Microneedling isn’t just effective on your face either. It can also be used on your hands, chest, and neck.

What is microneedling with platelet-rich fibrin?

To give you even more dramatic results from microneedling, Dr. Sandhu offers the option to add platelet-rich fibrin (PRF) to your treatment. To get the PRF, she takes a small sample of your blood and places it in a centrifuge. She then separates out the platelets and white blood cells, which your body uses to stimulate healing and deliver growth factors, triggering regeneration in your cells.

Applying this PRF after microneedling allows it to penetrate into the deeper layers of your skin through the channels created by microneedling. The PRF gives your skin tools to use in creating new collagen, improving your results.

What should I expect during and after microneedling?

Dr. Sandhu applies a topical anesthetic before microneedling to ensure you’re completely comfortable during your treatment. You might experience some redness after your treatment, but it should dissipate in a day or so.

You may achieve your desired results with one treatment, or Dr. Sandhu may recommend a series of microneedling treatments to help you achieve your skin goals. Talk with her about your ideal skin, and she personalizes a treatment program to you.
