How Do Microneedling and PRF Work Together?

How Do Microneedling and PRF Work Together?

Looking for a minimally invasive way to tighten your skin and reduce signs of aging? Minimally invasive microneedling opens up your pores and prompts your body to rejuvenate your skin. Protein-rich fibrin (PRF) is a topical solution made from your own blood, designed to encourage faster, better healing. Pairing these procedures together can help you get the most out of every microneedling session.

At New Image Medical Spa in Fremont, California, Dr. Surinder Sandhu uses microneedling in combination with PRF to refresh and rejuvenate your skin for a smoother, younger look.

Microneedling 101

When it comes to anti-aging treatments, microneedling is a step above pricy moisturizers and serums, for a smaller price and less commitment. The procedure is minimally invasive with very little downtime, and results can begin appearing within one or more sessions.

At first glance, a roller studded with needles might seem like an intimidating beauty tool. However, the needles used during microneedling are extraordinarily small, and Dr. Sandhu provides topical anesthesia before every session.

As the needles are rolled over your face, they create micro-injuries for your body to heal. Each one is filled in, and your body begins producing collagen and elastin to reinforce the skin.

Adding PRF to the process

Much like protein-rich plasma (PRP), protein-rich fibrin (PRF) is derived from your blood using a centrifuge. By spinning a sample at high speeds, Dr. Sandhu can isolate the platelets and white blood cells. Platelets are responsible for clotting injuries and inducing protein production, while white blood cells protect you from infection.

PRF is applied after microneedling to increase access to powerful growth factors and improve the benefits of the microneedling process. The PRF solution is absorbed through the pinpricks caused by the microneedling.

The best part is, because PRF is derived from your own centrifuged blood, your immune system will accept the PRF and begin using the proteins as soon as the solution is applied. Adding PRF to the microneedling process helps your skin bounce back faster, fuller, and firmer.

Your skin might feel tender for a day or so after treatment. Avoid direct sunlight, and don’t use any harsh products or makeup. You can repeat this procedure until you’ve achieved the desired effect.

Who can benefit from microneedling with PRF?

Microneedling is used to treat a number of skin conditions, including:
